CTM, our business in Macau, is the leading provider of mobile, fixed-line and broadband services in Macau, and the only full-service operator.  .

CTM is the clear leader in a competitive mobile market, served by four operators, with high-levels of customer penetration. CTM has stayed ahead of the pack through superior service. It was the first operator in Macau to introduce 3G technology in 2007, enabling it to expand the range of mobile services it offers to customers.

In broadband, CTM offers high download speed services to residential and business customers. It also offers enterprise solutions to the neighbouring territories, casinos and other major corporates.

In 2009, CTM had 523,141 active mobile customers in one of the world’s most competitive mobile markets as well as 171,360 fixed line and 127,996 broadband customers.

As the only full telecom service provider in Macau, CTM is well-positioned to benefit from the region’s growth. Macau is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, one of the world’s most dynamic economies.

There is rapid economic growth in China and the South-East Asian region and Macau is seeing the benefit of that too. Macau’s economy has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by the construction and operation of large-scale casinos. The country is one of the world’s major casino centres.

Macau is one of the premier destinations for Chinese tourists and receives millions of visitors each year.

Cable & Wireless began operations in Macau in 1981, when it was entrusted by the Government to help improve the telecom services. Prior to 1981, residents in Macau had to wait many months simply to have a telephone connected.

CTM is now owned by Cable & Wireless Communications (51%), other shareholders are Portugal Telecom (28%); CITIC Pacific (20%) and Macao Post (1%).
